People usually know that it’s time to change their mattress when their back hurts and they can’t get enough sleep.
People who saw the end of the Soviet Union and Russia in the 90s probably remember that then two types of mattresses were common: spring and filled with foam rubber and cotton wool. I can’t say that they were very comfortable, but probably everyone slept on them, including me.
Nowadays there are many more mattresses; you just need to choose the appropriate size and filling. Several years ago, I myself was faced with the problem of choosing a mattress, and in this article I will tell you what they are like and what you should pay attention to when buying.

Spring mattresses
Innerspring mattresses use steel springs—hourglass or barrel-shaped. The diameter of the springs ranges from two to six centimeters. The smaller the diameter, the more springs there are in the mattress. The number of turns is from four to eight. The fewer turns, the harder the mattress. There can be different springs inside one mattress. This is how manufacturers make zoned mattresses. In the head area there may be many springs that have eight turns with a diameter of two centimeters, and in the hip area for better support there will be springs that have four turns and a diameter of six centimeters.

Spring mattresses differ in the number of springs and the thickness of the wire in them. The more springs, the more precise the weight distribution. The thicker they are, the longer the mattress will last. For example, mattresses with 400 or more springs have a service life of 10 years. In addition, the heavier the person who will sleep on the mattress, the thicker the wire in the springs should be.
You can find out about the number and thickness of springs from your sales consultant or request information from the manufacturer. This information is rarely indicated in mattress manuals.
